20 Hours ECE is not the only support available. The Childcare Subsidy from Work and Income can help with the cost of childcare for younger children and outside the funded hours.
Who can get it
Eligibility depends on your family income, how many hours you work or study, and your child's age. You do not have to be on a benefit to qualify.
What it covers
The subsidy pays a set amount per hour toward approved childcare, for up to 50 hours a week if you are working or studying.
How to apply
- Check the current income thresholds on the Work and Income website.
- Ask your centre whether they are an approved provider.
- Apply before or soon after your child starts.
Stacking the Childcare Subsidy with 20 Hours ECE can make a big difference — ask your centre to help you work out the combination.
